Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018)

Horror and comedy have always gone together- which makes it a logical step to animate a horror comedy, right?  Right Dracula is getting lonely running his hotel.  His daughter Mavis decides that he needs a vacation from the hotel... and books a cruise for the whole gang. While there, he meets Ericka, the Captain of the cruise ship... and "zings"... But will the "zing" be mutual... or is Ericka hiding a dark secret that could ultimately mean Dracula's death? For a third entry in an animated franchise, " Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation " isn't bad.  It's not great, though.  I did enjoy the story.  It was sufficiently interesting enough to keep my attention through the bag of cheesy poofs I ate while watching it.  Beyond that, it's a fairly shallow plot. While it has the whole gang, (Frankie, Griffin the Invisible Man, Wayne the Wolfman, and Murray the Mummy), they play very minor roles as it relates to the plot.  It felt li...

Frankenstein 80 (1972)

When I do my " What Movie Wednesday ," I find myself struggling to find witty, funny, or informative things to tweet as I'm watching the winner.  Other times... the movie provides fuel for tweets that have people crying from laughter... A serum that could help transplant patients has been stolen and beautiful women are being murdered- with their organs removed.  An investigative reporter becomes involved in the case and finds that a respected doctor has a dark secret to hide ... This was a fun movie to tweet along to- but mostly because there was so much to poke fun at.  This reworking of the classic " Frankenstein " story does a decent job storywise, but does suffer from some serious holes in its logic.  For instance, if the serum is so important, why is it kept in a beaker in an unlocked fridge in  its creator's office?  How did Frankenstein manage to construct a secret lab in the hospital where he works? How was he able to get the body parts witho...

Mary Shelly's Frankentein (1994)

I enjoy classical horror literature.  I've read Poe, " Dracula ", and even reviewed " Frankenstein; or a Modern Prometheus " here on the blog.  I also enjoy seeing how Hollywood adapts these classics to the big screen.  I watched one such adaptation during " Terrorpolooza 2012 "... Victor Frankenstein becomes obsessed with defeating death after his mother dies during childbirth.  He soon begins to experiment with dead flesh, and discovers the means by which he can create a living, breathing, being.  Soon however, the consequences of his actions return to destroy all that he holds dear... Those that I know said that " Mary Shelly's Frankenstein " was a less than spectacular movie.  I try to remain open minded when I hear comments about movies, since there is always the possibility that I'd enjoy it.  The difference of opinion my friend Jay (from " We Came From the Basement ") and I have over the Kevin Costner movie, ...

Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus (1818)

I don't think a true fan of the horror genre would neglect to appreciate the historical development of horror in literature as it grew from simple folklore in the form of fairy tales (let's face it- Grimms' Fairy Tales are downright scary in their original forms) to a stories specifically created to entertain in the form of books.  One of these such tales is, " Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus ". Victor Frankenstein has been obsessed since childhood with the desire to discover the secret of Life.  After having used parts disected from human corpses... and possibly animal as well, he is finally ready to test his theories and attempt to bring his creation to life.  As he looks upon his creature, the reality of what he's done horrifies him- causing him to abandon his creation and flee.  Racked with anger, Frankenstein's creation begins a campaign of terror against his creator... and dogs his every step to the ends of the earth. Those that are fans...
