Halloween Day by Day: "The Dead Zone" (Season One)

One of my favorite Stephen King novels (next to " The Shining " of course), is " The Dead Zone ".  I'm also a huge fan of the movie version starring Christopher Walken. I mean- It's CHRISTOPHER WALKEN! *coughs and calms down from his fanboy fever* Anyway, back in 2002, when I heard that they were going to produce a " The Dead Zone " TV series, I was stoked. Since I don't watch TV, I waited until the first season was on DVD, and binged it.  I binged it hard.  Like two teens hiding the bushes at the local make-out spot hard. I loved it.  The first season follows the novel for the most part:  Johnny Smith is in a car accident that puts him in a coma for six years.  When he comes out of it, he discovers that he has psychic abilities to give him visions upon touching someone.  After rubbing shoulders with congressional candidate, Johnny is then sent on a path to prevent a possible nuclear apocalypse from occurring. Halloween Day by Day: Top Five Haunted Dolls

There are two things that can be guaranteed to make a horror movie creepy as fuck.  Killer children, and haunted dolls. Hell- even non-haunted dolls are enough to creep people out.  *shudder* So, I figured it'd be cool to list my Top Five Haunted Dolls!  Sooooooo, let's get to it! Annabelle-  I think it's safe to say that Annabelle is probably the MOST famous of the haunted dolls on this list.  The details of the haunting surrounding this doll are fascination and unsettling at the same time.  This isn't helped by the fact that Raggedy Ann dolls were such a symbol of innocent childhood and companionship. Ed and Lorraine Warren introduced the world at large to this scary doll- and inspired "The Conjuring" spin-off "Annabelle". I must confess though- the original Raggedy Ann doll is more eerie than what was used in the movies. Mandy-  The Quesnel Museum in British Columbia is home to this porcelain doll made between 1910 ...

The Boy (2016)

Children can be pretty creepy, right?  Right.  Dolls are pretty creepy, right?  Right.  So dolls of children should be super creepy, right?  Maybe... Greta has been hired by the Heelshires to look after their son while they are away.  When she arrives, she learns that Brahms is actually a doll... a doll made to look like their deceased son.  Escaping an abusive relationship, and needing the money, Greta takes the job. Soon, she learns that there's more to Brahms than meets the eye... The premise of this movie really intrigued me.  I wanted to see it.  I was hoping that this would be a great supernatural horror movie that provided spooky tension and unease like " The Others " (2001), " The Changeling  "(1980), and " The Woman in Black " (2012). For the most part, the movie delivered on this promise with some really nice ghostly, "What the fuck?" moments.  Strange noises and whispers, shifting shadows, and the Brahm...

Happy Death Day (2018)

Birthdays are great.  Dying on them, not so great.  Having to repeat your birthday over and over again?  Hilarious... It's Theresa's birthday today.  After going to a party, a masked person kills her in a dark tunnel. It's Theresa's birthday today.  After going to a party, she goes straight home... but a masked person kills her in her bedroom. It's Theresa's birthday today.  It will always be Theresa's birthday unless she can identify and stop the masked person from kill her again... and again... and again . " Happy Death Day " is essentially " Groundhog Day " meets " Scream ".  A great concept, that is executed extremely well.  The story is surprisingly well developed and engaging, while utilizing the same framework of events over and over again. The characters to, are well crafted and rounded.  All of them get some depth and growth as the story progresses.  You come to like both Theresa and Carter- the boy whose d...
