Halloween Day by Day: Top Five Stephen King Adaptations

If there is one writer who's indelibly linked to horror, it'd have to be Stephen King.  And when you're as skilled- and prolific a writer as Stephen King, there will inevitably be adaptations of your writing. So, today, I present you my " Top Five Stephen King Adaptations "! 1.  " The Dead Zone " (1983)-  Directed by David Cronenberg, and starring Christopher Walken, this is one of my favorites.  It is a well crafted, and spooky retelling of the story of a man who becomes psychic after an accident, and whose life get entangled with that of a politician who's fated to destroy the world. 2.  " Misery " (1990)-  One of the most faithful adaptations of a story about a writer who meets his "number one fan" after she rescues him from a car accident.  Starring Kathy Bates, and James Caan, director Rob Reiner gives us a slow burning, tale of horror that keeps you on the edge of your seat.  The sledgehammer scene especially is shudder in...

Top Ten Stephen King Adaptations

I can easily be described as a pretty serious- almost hardcore Stephen King fan.  I just absolutely love his books.  I also really enjoy seeing what film makers do with his books as well. So, without much further blather from me, here is a list of my favorite adaptations of Stephen King horror books (in chronological order): "Carrie" (1976); "Cujo" (1983); "The Dead Zone" (1983); "Christine" (1983); "Pet Semetary" (1989); "Misery" (1990); "Secret Window" (2004); "The Mist" (2007); "Carrie" (2013); "IT: Chapter One" (2017). There you have it.  What are some of your favorite Stephen King adaptations?

It: Chapter One (2017)

One of the most talked about horror movies in 2017 was the most recent adaptation of Stephen King's " IT ". Well, it's 2018, and I'm going to be talking about it. What?  Too soon? The small town of Derry, Maine has been plagued for centuries by strange disappearances of children.  Unknown to the residents, something sleeps beneath them, waiting until it's time to feed again. But it's waking up now... and only a group of teenagers called "The Losers" can save them... The book it self is long.  Really long.  Which is why it had been done as a mini-series back in 1990, and has been split up into two movies- with this one being " Chapter One ".  The two movie breakdown is actually quite appropriate since the book is pretty much two stories.  The first one is from the teenage perspective, while the second is from an adult perspective. The characters in this chapter were really well done, and likeable.  You come to sympathize w...

Misery (1991)

I'm always fascinated to see how certain books might be transcribed from the page onto the big screen- especially when it's a book by one of my favorite authors.  Usually, they aren't as good... but sometimes, they are just as good as- if not better than the book. Paul Sheldon is an author who is well known for his "Misery Chastain" novels to point where he feels that he'll never be known for anything else.  After a car accident leaves him stranded in the middle of a blizzard, he finds himself being nursed to health by Annie- his "number one fan."  Soon though, he learns just how far some fans will go to keep him from killing off their beloved character Misery... I absolutely loved the book by Stephen King and was hopeful the movie would retain the book's integrity and mood.  I wasn't disappointed.  Kathy Bates was just simply mind blowing as Annie- and deserved to win the 1990 Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role; 1990 Golde...
